Lifestyle Adaptive’s Story
In 1978, at the age of 16 I knew I was destined to work with seniors. It was Christmas time when our family visited my 89-year-old Great-Grandmother, Margaret Jenkins, who resided in a care centre in Edmonton, Alberta. I have always remembered with profound sadness how this once feisty Scottish little terror on wheels was reduced to a bed ridden skeleton of herself talking about making my Great-Grandfather’s lunch in time to go to work at the Cadomin Coal Company. While I witnessed shared rooms and wheelchairs in the hallways of a sterile hospital setting, I knew as a society we should be offering better care with dignity, respect and compassion, and I planned on being part of it!
In 2013, armed with a Psychology Degree from the University of Alberta, a Seniors’ Housing Diploma from Red Deer College and 15 years of business experience I conceptualized and created the Gifts for Gran storefront. Gifts for Gran was a shoppe that offered “Lifestyle products for seniors” which would include everything from ergonomic gardening tools, wheelchair & walker totes, imported preserves & European chocolate and of course, adaptive clothing & therapeutic footwear. Much to my pleasant surprise, customers were requesting more selection of the clothing and footwear.
In 2017 together with a high demand for adaptive clothing & footwear, the strong emergence of online shopping and sky-rocketing commercial rent, we made the decision to rebrand to Lifestyle Adaptive Clothing & Footwear and relocate to an industrial space in order to focus on online while still offering, albeit a smaller amount, of in-person shopping. Two years later on the tail end of a serious health scare and a few months prior to the pandemic, the current Lifestyle Adaptive business model was born; concierge and online shopping with shipping, local delivery and porch pickup options.
Today, Lifestyle Adaptive’s quality Canadian professionally manufactured clothing and therapeutic footwear continues to be in demand and we are honoured to provide quality products with unequalled customer service to our customers who provide confidence and comfort to their loved ones.
I get it – how may we assist you?
